At Spectrum we are concerned about the environmental issues that plague our world today. Therefore, we make every effort to do our part in protecting the environment. Listed below are the areas we pursue to assure that Spectrum is a GREEN Company……and getting GREENER every day.

To the maximum extent possible all yarns we process are sustainable and manufactured within our total GREEN environment. We have Eco-Dyed™ to assure our dyeing processes are GREEN as can be. We have the 360°™ trademark for our sustainable yarns.

We have a special 360°Team to focus on recycling in all areas. We recycle over 1.5 million pounds of material annually. This includes approximately 600,000 pounds of cardboard cases and wooden pallets that are recycled in-house. Cardboard, pallets, paper, plastic tubes, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, yarn waste, and chemical containers that can not be recycled in-house are recycled through external sources.

We continuously evaluate all our manufacturing processes and make the necessary improvements to protect the environment. Renewable energy is our goal.

We have reduced our gas consumption to reduce Global Warming. We installed a 4,000,000 BTU/hr heat recovery system to recover and reuse hot water from dye effluent. We reclaim and reuse all hot water. A heat reclamation system in our boiler stack heats water used in dyeing and cools stack temperature. This reduces the temperature of discharged air into the environment.

We installed water cooled air compressors to conserve energy. After the water cools the air compressors, the water is reused in dyeing. Economizers on the boiler and air conditioning systems reduce energy consumption.

All outside hot water storage tanks are insulated to conserve energy.

Set-back systems are installed on all office heating and cooling systems. After office hours, the temperature automatically adjusts to conserve energy.

All lights in all departments are off to reduce energy consumption when our plants are not operating.

A lot of little things together make a BIG difference.

We use only environmentally-friendly dyes and chemicals. To achieve this, we work closely with all dye and chemical vendors and outside regulatory groups. All dyes and chemicals used in our dyeing and equipment cleaning processes meet all regulatory requirements. Our effluent disposal is in full compliance with all regulations.

Spectrum is “SLIVER” certified by MBDC for all our 360°™ PET (Polyester) sustainable dyed yarns. With this “cradle-to-cradle” certification these are fully compliant “GREEN” yarns.

We participate in community programs such as the Adopt-a-Highway program. This helps the environment and keeps us active in the community.

We educate our associates on the importance of recycling so they can be good stewards at home as well. We provide an onsite recycling station for associates who cannot recycle at home.
